FREE GOLF TIP OF THE DAY

ROTATE HANDS ON LONG BUNKER SHOTS
On a typical bunker shot from close around the green, you should open the club face and keep it open by not allowing the right hand to turn over the left hand in the follow-through. This insures that the club face will remain open as it slides through ten or twelve inches of sand under the ball. However, for a long bunker shot of about 40 yards or more, go ahead and allow your right hand to "release" and rotate over the left hand, just like you would do on a pitch shot from the fairway. The reason you can release the club head on a long bunker shot is because you are hitting the sand only an inch behind the ball, and it is not necessary to keep the club face open as long. Therefore, maximize your distance on this shot by rotating your hands and extending your follow-through, like you would do on a normal pitch shot.
